Andrew Luck's big secret is finally out. He's been throwing a football for weeks — and now he's throwing in public Drew Sample Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , too.Nearly 17 months after undergoing surgery on his injured right shoulder, Luck jogged onto the practice field Tuesday wearing a red jersey, strapping on a helmet and picking up a special ball as he started throwing in front of reporters for the first time since October. No, it wasn't a regulation NFL ball and the longest pass he attempted was only about a 20-yard lob, but it still was progress."It's a lighter football," Luck said, referring to the striped football he tossed around. "It's sort of a bridge. I've thrown a real football, 'The Duke Drew Sample Jersey 2019 ,' whatever you want to call it. I've picked it up and I've thrown it and it felt great. And honestly, there was a little mental block to doing it and I had to do it sort of by myself."Throughout the process, the Colts have been tight-lipped about Luck's progression.Just last week, coach Frank Reich acknowledged Luck was "real close" to throwing. He even played "toss" with Luck three weeks ago, the first and only time he has thrown "The Duke," the standard NFL ball. Luck then swore him to secrecy, and Reich obliged the team's biggest star."Sorry, I confess. It really was hard for me to say that Youth Drew Sample Jersey ," Reich said of the continual denials about Luck throwing a football. "It really wasn't a workout. That was how I justified it in my mind."The wait for Luck's expected return from a partially torn labrum, which kept him out all of last season, has been as agonizing for Luck as it has been for Colts' fans.Just two weeks after he started throwing in October, the Colts shut down Luck because of what he described as lingering soreness. He changed the description Tuesday, saying the soreness was actually real pain.Luck spent a couple of weeks seeking second opinions before heading to Europe where he continued working out until late December. He returned to the team complex just before the regular-season finale and presumably had spent the past six months ramping up to start throwing between the end of minicamp and the start of training camp in late July.Just last week, Reich said Luck was "real close" to throwing.Clearly, though, the second round of rehab has gone far better than the first."I had pain last year and then I wasn't being honest to myself about it White Drew Sample Jersey ," Luck said. "I was trying to get through pain, per se. There's none of that right now. My arm feels normal (now). Doing things feels normal."Reich said the plan is for Luck to steadily ramp up his throwing so he can throw four times per week at camp to mimic a regular-season schedule. Even preseason appearances could be possible.Reich and team owner Jim Irsay believe Luck will make his first start in almost 21 months when the Cincinnati Bengals come to town Sept. 9.Luck agrees."I really think there are not hurdles, it's just us protecting him," Irsay said. "I think we'll go through the progression of the preseason and he'll be ready to go against the Bengals."Skeptics note all of this has been said before.Last August, Irsay was still saying he expected Luck to come back during the first month of the season. Instead, Luck never took a snap. But Luck and the Colts insist this time is different, and not just because Luck is throwing earlier in the process than last season."I can just tell you he has looked really good in his sessions. There have been enough sessions that I have seen — with whatever kind of ball it is — it's looked good," said Reich Drew Sample Jersey Mens , a former NFL quarterback who had similar surgery after his 14-year pro career ended. "There have been some throws where I would say letting it all out rip."Luck was cautious and played it close to the vest with the nearly two dozen throws he made Tuesday. That's also part of the plan, and one Luck believes will get his career back on track."I just believe I'm on the right path. I believe I'm going to be absolutely — I believe I'm going to be better than I was. I really, really do," he said. "I believe I'll be a better quarterback for this team, a better teammate."Ravens at Bengals injury report: Carlos Dunlap and Preston Brown back at practice The Bengals are getting healthier ahead of their Thursday clash with the Ravens. After not practicing Monday, both Preston Brown and Carlos Dunlap returned to action on Tuesday. However, it was only a limited session for the two defenders, so how much work they get in Wednesday will largely determine their status for Thursday. Backup receiver Cody Core was limited once again and looks highly unlikely to play Thursday. We should expect the Bengals to roll with five receivers again and rookie Auden Tate be a healthy scratch.Left guard Clint Boling got a full session in Tuesday after being limited on Monday. He looks ready to rock for Thursday after helping pave the way for Joe Mixon’s big Week 1 (5.6 ypc on 17 runs). On Baltimore’s side Billy Price Jersey , it was more of the same as backup running back Kenneth Dixon, backup cornerback Maurice Canady, backup defensive tackle Willie Henry and tight end Hayden Hurt remained out. All four are likely going to be inactive Thursday. Canady is the big loss simply because Jimmy Smith is already out due to suspension, so Baltimore’s secondary is going to be very thin against a team they’ve routinely been torched by in the fourth quarter, whether by A.J. Green or Tyler Boyd. While Dixon did get significant touches in Week 1, that was mainly because it was a 47-3 drubbing that saw every active player log significant snaps. Javorius ‘Buck’ Allen is the backup to Alex Collins, so those were going to be the two backs Cincinnati saw most Thursday regardless of Dixon’s status. He remained on staff after McDaniels backed out at the last-minute and the Colts pivoted to Frank Reich instead. After one year together in a forced marriage, Reich fired DuGuglielmo in favor of Chris Strausser and Howard Mudd. The Colts offensive line saw a massive jump in productivity last season under DeGuglielmo. The selection of Quenton Nelson certainly helped, as did the return of a healthy Andrew Luck, but DeGuglielmo deserves credit for the turnaround as well. The Detroit Lions clustered on the bench under shade canopies Sunday, keeping their cool in the South Florida heat. And when they stepped onto the field and into the subtropical sunshine, they ran all over the Miami Dolphins.Unfazed by the weather Youth Andrew Van Ginkel Jersey , Kerryon Johnson rushed for 158 yards and the Lions netted 248 on the ground, their highest total in 21 years, to win 32-21.Matt Stafford was 18 for 22 for 217 yards and two touchdowns. They’ve climbed back to .500 after being outscored 78-44 in their first two games.Injury-ravaged Miami (4-3) lost at home for the first time this season 鈥?and lost another key player. To finally get to play in the sun and heat and humidity, I was loving it.”Johnson carried 19 times and needed barely a quarter to reach 100 yards. The rookie ran for 24 on Detroit’s first play and found a gaping hole on a draw for a 71-yard gain, the Lions’ longest running play since 2011, to set up a field goal.“Basically they could do whatever they wanted on that side of the ball,” Miami coach Adam Gase said.Detroit averaged 7.1 yards per rush. Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake, for one, was surprised how many yards rushing his team allowed.“A lot has to go wrong for that to happen Miami Dolphins Jerseys Stitched ,” he said.Detroit’s Michael Roberts, who had missed the past three games with a knee injury, caught touchdown passes of 15 and 4 yards.“We’re a very fine-tuned offense,” Roberts said, “and it was nice to be able to show how fine-tuned we are.”Brock Osweiler threw for 239 yards for the Dolphins, and after falling behind 20-7, they tried to rally with Kenyan Drake‘s 54-yard touchdown run and Danny Amendola‘s 24-yard scoring reception. But Prater’s 50-yard field goal 鈥?his fourth 鈥?with 1:55 left sealed the victory.INJURED BYSTANDERA security guard hurt her shoulder when Stills blindsided her on a scoring play . Stills’ momentum carried him into the guard after he caught a 5-yard pass in the corner of the end zone, and the woman tumbled to the ground.A dazed Stills checked on her and gave her the ball as a souvenir. The Dolphins said the guard was taken to the hospital as a precaution with a sore shoulder.Gase said he didn’t consider the positioning of the guard near the end zone something that needed to be addressed.“Every stadium is like that where that can happen Christian Wilkins Miami Dolphins Jerseys ,” the coach said.INJURY REPORTMiami: Wilson left the game in the second quarter after his foot appeared to buckle when he was tackled on a 25-yard reception. He limped to the locker room.“It definitely hurts us,” Osweiler said. “Albert is a tremendous player. He brings a spark. We definitely missed him.”ANTHEMStills and Wilson kneeled during the anthem, as they have done before previous games, and Miami defensive end Robert Quinn again raised his right fist.UP NEXTDolphins: Miami plays Thursday night at the Houston Texans, who lead the series 7-1.Lions: Detroit plays at home Sunday against Seattle. It’s their first meeting since the Seahawks beat the Lions in an NFC wild-card game two seasons ago.

The Los Angeles Rams have a dominant offensive line and the performance shouldn’t be solely credited to the personnel but the mastermind behind the scheme."The Los Angeles Rams are in the Super Bowl. Armed with a strong rushing attack led by Todd Gurley for the majority of the season, Gurley led the league in rushing touchdowns while finishing fourth in yards from scrimmage. These gaudy stats were despite Gurley missing the final two games of the season. With the nagging injury (that no one wants to admit to), Gurley actually doesn’t even lead the Rams in rushing for the postseason. That would go to NFL journeyman, C.J. Anderson. Anderson has been spectacular after being signed off the street. According to FiveThirtyEight, the secret to the Rams continued dominance isn’t solely that the offensive line is just that good, it’s that Sean McVay has schemed an attack that has truly maximized the talents of the team.Don’t get me wrong, McVay is definitely important but adding Andrew Whitworth and John Sullivan were huge personnel upgrades as well. Essentially half (due to Jamon Brown’s suspension/release and ascension of Austin Blythe) of the personnel are holdovers from the “middle school offense” era in Rodger Saffold (though healthy) Rob Havenstein, and the combination of Brown/Blythe (yes, Blythe was added in 2017 with McVay but Brown started all of 2017). Swapping in Aaron Kromer as coach has also paid dividends as well. There are definitely some improvements in personnel and coaching but 538 makes a case that McVay’s gameplanning and personnel are the bigger reasons for the success.FiveThirtyEightThe Rams so far have proven that whether it is the second highest paid back in Todd Gurley or NFL veteran journeyman C.J. Anderson, they will maximize the running game because of their coaching, scheme, and personnel. FiveThirtyEight says it best to conclude the analysis.

Every other quarterback who has had a season in the Top 15 in any of those statistical categories has declined the following year. It’s also inevitable that defensive coordinators facing the Chiefs will spend much of the offseason planning new wrinkles to throw at him. He won’t catch anyone by surprise this season. And with Tyreek Hill‘s status still in question Jarvis Jenkins Jersey , Mahomes may be without his best receiver. The closest comparison to Mahomes may be Dan Marino, who in 1984 had a similarly spectacular season in his second year in the NFL. Marino was still a good quarterback the following year Daniel Sorensen Jersey , but not as good: He threw for 947 fewer yards, 18 fewer touchdowns and four more interceptions in 1985. It’s easy to picture Mahomes likewise being good in 2019 — but not as good as he was in his MVP season in 2018.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Latest on Super Bowl 53 (all times EST):7 p.m.The Rams held a one-hour Youth Duke Dawson Jerseys , 33-minute practice at the Falcons' facility in Flowery Branch. "It was great," Rams coach Sean McVay said, "and it was good really for players and coaches. You almost get away from it a couple of days. It was really a big emphasis on above the neck, and then tomorrow and Friday will be good to kind of finalize the week."The Rams' routine is a walkthrough on Wednesdays. Rolando McClain has retired three times and currently is serving his third NFL suspension. The former linebacker hasn’t played since 2015. But McClain says he wants to come back . . . again.First https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , the NFL would have to reinstate McClain, who received an indefinite suspension on Dec. 2, 2016. Then, McClain would have to find an NFL team willing to give him a third (fourth? fifth? sixth?) chance.A source confirmed the Cowboys retain his rights as he went on their reserve/suspended list before the 2016 season when he began a 10-game suspension, the second of his career. However, the Cowboys likely would cut McClain if he were to earn reinstatement, considering he signed a one-year Derek Carr Jersey White , $5 million deal before the 2016 season.McClain retired twice with the Ravens and never played a down for Baltimore, missing the 2013 season, before they traded him to Dallas. The Houston Texans had the week off be with family Zach Cunningham Jersey , asses the last nine games, and get healthy for the rest of the season. A much needed week off comes at a perfect time for the Texans as they look to face their best opponent in weeks. The Washington Redskins are equally as injured, but are coming off an impressive victory against the Buccaneers where their defense only gave up three points. The Redskins’ defense is one of the most underrated in the league, and features several gritty run stoppers up front who have limited opponents to an average of 19.4 points per game. Ryan Kerrigan and D.J. Swearinger are having Pro-Bowl caliber seasons, while Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen are turning into the next best defensive line duo in the league. The Texans are set to return several key players this week. We will not know with any certainty who will be healthy for the game on Sunday, but the Bill O’Brien Chamber of Texans Secrets did let us know that several missing faces from the team are on the path to recovery. Here was the Injury Report heading into the Week 9 game against Denver.Zach Cunningham, Johnathan Joseph, Aaron Colvin, Keke Coutee, Andre Hal, and Peter Kalambayi were all out against the Broncos. That’s at least five starters who could potentially return this week. That does not even include the much waited return of running back D’Onta Foreman who has been out for the start of the season as he recovers from a torn Achilles from last year. Who do the Texans need back most the game against the Washington Redskins? I’d argue that getting Johnathan Joseph back next week will mean the most to the team. The leadership, consistency Lonnie Johnson Houston Texans Jersey , and secondary help he provides was glaringly absent from last week’s game and will be vital to have against Alex Smith and the Redskins’ passing attack. With so many secondary players missing from the game, Shareece Wright and Kareem Jackson started at corner back against the Broncos. Wright is a veteran corner who has bounced around the league in his nine seasons, but was brought here in the wake of the Kevin Johnson injury. Kareem Jackson was converted to safety before the season, but has has to resort back to corner because of all the injuries. The Texans’ secondary has been so heavily injured that newly signed corner back Mike Tyson saw 71% of the snaps on defense. The return of Joseph will have several immediate affects on the defense. First, it’s an obvious upgrade from Mike Tyson and Natrell Jamerson who have had to contribute exponentially more than anyone could have predicted. Joseph is not only one of the oldest but one of the best corners in the league, and his the ability to apply man coverage against big wide receivers. Joseph considerably does not have the top end speed that he used to, but he certainly has held his own throughout the past few years with the Texans. The second reason why Joseph will be the most important player to return is the size advantage of the Redskins receivers. Wide receivers Josh Doctson, Maurece Harris, and Michael Floyd are all above 6’2”. Though Mike Tyson is an incredibly tall corner, he does not have the experience and success against longer receivers that Joseph has. Since they joined the team, Joseph has taken the taller receiver while Kareem Jackson has guarded the opposing speedster. Floyd is the faster of the two, so a combination of Jackson and returning corner back Aaron Colvin will cover the tall and fast receiver. With Paul Richardson out Lonnie Johnson Jersey 2019 , the Redskins true WR1 option will be extremely vague heading into the week. Jordan Reed is the best pass catcher on the team, but I would prefer and expect Zach Cunningham, Aaron Colvin, or Benardrick McKinney to cover him. The return of Joseph to the lineup will also impact how the defensive personnel lines up. As previously stated, Jackson was forced to return to corner back duties instead of playing safety and Tyrann Mathieu was playing more of a slot/nickel position that he was trying to steer away from in Arizona. With Joseph back, Colvin can play wherever he wants, Kareem can play the nickel/safety position where he has been dominating, and rookie safety Justin Reid will play a true robber safety position. The natural nickel set that the Texans play in is immediately enhanced and puts everyone in their natural position when Joseph comes back to health. It’s like finding the corner piece of a puzzle—now you can create the border of the full picture. You can argue that Zach Cunningham is the key to shutting down the Redskins average offense. He is fast enough to stick with Jordan Reed in passing routes, and is a good enough tackler to coral Adrian Peterson. Cunningham is recovering from a knee sprain that kept him out of the Denver game, but is hopeful to be back this next week. Brian Peters would play in his place, and Peters has shown to be reliable when called upon. Another argument can be made for Keke Coutee the rookie wide receiver who has only played four times this season. Coutee set a team record of eleven receptions in his debut. Josh Norman will be guarding DeAndre Hopkins for the entirety of the game. Demaryius Thomas will be covered by Quinton Dunbar. Those are for certain, but the Redskins don’t have a reliable third corner that can cover Coutee if he is healthy. D.J. Swearinger is the next best secondary player Color Rush Lonnie Johnson Jersey , but his skill set is more towards blasting running backs out of the backfield and covering tight ends than picking up speedy wide receivers over the middle. Coutee could be a match up nightmare for the Redskins, but his presence or absence in the game is not as internal as having Joseph out of the field. Joseph has been the lynchpin to this Texans defense for eight years and continues to be a deciding factor in many of this season’s games. The Texans won against Denver without him, but not before quarterback Kase Keenum threw for almost 300 yards and a touchdown. EDTShareTweetShareShare2019 NFL mock draft: Listen to the complete SB Nation mock Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsIf you’re a subscriber to the PODcast or just an observant reader of Pride of Detroit, you may notice that there’s a new episode that dropped on Tuesday morning entitled “SPECIAL: 2019 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft.” Our friends over at the mothership put together an awesome mock draft episode where site managers for all the teams with a first-round pick in this year’s draft made appearances to make their selections for the team they represented. As you may remember, I selected Brian Burns with the eighth overall pick for the Detroit Lions. You can read my rationale, and we devoted an entire podcast to it, which you can listen to here. I make a brief appearance on this SB Nation podcast, as well, briefly touching on some of the players I considered and why I think Burns could transform the Lions’ defense completely. But this episode provides a nice background into what the other 31 picks could be and what why those teams may go in that direction.Give it a listen below (or click here): Matthew Stafford was supposed to be the franchise’s savior 10 years ago, now Detroit must find another one."The Detroit Lions closed out their 2018 campaign with a 31-0 victory over their arch-rival Green Bay Packers on the 30th of December. While the game did not matter much, both teams had already been eliminated from postseason contention, it was a symbolic victory for a team that had just gone through one of its worst seasons of the decade. A defense that was oft-maligned to start the year pitched a shutout, quarterback Matthew Stafford finished the year strong after an entire year of struggles, a stagnant offense put 31 points on the board and Detroit earned a dominant victory at Lambeau Field, a stadium which haunted them for decades in the past. The game also fittingly came just two days after the ten year anniversary of one of the most infamous match up between the teams. On December 28, 2008, the 0-15 Lions had one last chance to salvage their season and avoid an almost unthinkable winless season. The Lions played with fight, and brought a deficit that was once 14 all the way down to three with a Kevin Smith touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. The team was rallying and looked like they had a chance to steal a victory in the seasons final week. It then took only one play on the ensuing possession for Aaron Rodgers to find Donald Drive for a 71-yard touchdown pass, effectively ending the game and clinching a defeated season. This was a turning point for the franchise—it had to be.The organization cleaned house and changed their logo. They spent their first overall pick on quarterback Matthew Stafford and were prepared to make him the face of the franchise going forward. It was a new age of Detroit Lions football, and they were making sure everyone knew that. 10 years later it’s easy to see how far this franchise has come. Since 2011 (the first two years post-2008 were rife with injuries and rebuilding) Color Rush Jahlani Tavai Jersey , the team has made the playoffs three times—having not reached the postseason since 1999 previously. Stafford has emerged as one of the statistically greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. They have proven to be legitimate competitors in the NFC North and have hung with the best of teams in the NFL. But it is also easy to argue that this franchise has not gone anywhere at all since the Stafford era began. They’ve posted a 63-65 record since 2011, and while this is an improvement over the 40-88 record they posted between 2000-2007, it is still below .500. They still have never won the NFC North. All three of their playoff appearances ended with exits in the wild card round, and in two of those three games they were blown out. Despite Stafford’s box score stuffing, he has only been to one Pro Bowl.As a fan of the team over the past 17 years, things do genuinely feel different now than they did before. But after taking a deep look back at the past few years, it’s hard to see why.And that brings us to where the team stands entering the 2019 season. The 2018 campaign ended with a 6-10 record, but it feels like it went much worse than that. A team that should have at least been in the wild card hunt felt like they were out of the playoff race three quarters into the season opener. With new head coach Matt Patricia at the helm and the team’s new look run game, many thought this was finally the year that Detroit’s long-term plan for success would come to fruition. The Lions finally decided that the process of “rebuilding” and slowly working their way towards inevitable success was just was not cutting it this offseason. They spent $90 million to land edge defender Trey Flowers, arguably the best free agent of the 2019 class. General manager Bob Quinn splurged again, making nickel Justin Coleman the highest-paid player at his position. Detroit took a risk on Jesse James, a tight end with loads of potential who has not quite put it together yet, giving him a multi-year deal to be one of the team’s top tight ends for years to come. The team still has not gone as far as the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams did last season, as they both mortgaged their future for immediate success in 2018, but they are clearly building a team that they want to win right now. All of the players listed above players have back loaded contracts that will force Detroit into tough decisions in the near future. For now, though, they have acquired enough talent to make noise this year. Their is also another contract Detroit will soon have to deal with in the near future. Stafford still has four years left on his then-record $135 million deal he signed in 2017, but the team could get out of his deal early in 2021. If another team meets the right price Cheap Jahlani Tavai Jersey , he could be a trade candidate after 2019—rumors have it a trade may have even been in play at some points last offseason. A win-now roster filled with back-loaded deals, a potential decision on Stafford and the precarious job security of both Patricia and Quinn make this year’s NFL draft possibly the most important in franchise history. The Lions currently hold the eighth overall pick in the draft—their highest selection since they drafted Ezekiel Ansah fifth overall in 2013. If they land a star, this team has potential to be special. If they whiff, a team that has been rebuilding for decades may choose to start from scratch once again.Unlike 2009, the last time a Lions draft felt like it was truly going to define the franchise going forward, their is not an obvious top position of need. Stafford felt like the only choice a decade ago and the only other player in relative consideration was also a quarterback in Mark Sanchez.Detroit has a multitude of positions that they could choose to address with the eighth pick, making the choice even harder. They could boost their pass rush by drafting Florida State’s Brian Burns, a small but speedy pass rusher that has all of the tools a player would need to dominate the league for years. Montez Sweat out of Mississippi State, a bigger, stronger more versatile edge defender, could give a boost upfront as well and seems like the perfect player for a defense run by Patricia. Ed Oliver, the player so talented that some have created the position “off-ball tackle” specifically to describe the amount of things he can do on a football field. He would bolster one of the league’s best defensive tackle units and possibly revolutionize Detroit’s front-7.With Pro Bowl guard T.J. Lang out the door, NC State’s Garrett Bradbury could be the perfect replacement. Bradbury was recruited to the Wolfpack as a tight end, but his blocking prowess and high football IQ led to him moving all the way inside to guard. They could also choose Alabama offensive lineman Jonah Williams. While he played tackle in Tuscaloosa, many believe he has what it takes to kick inside to guard for the time being before eventually usurping the role of Rick Wagner going forward. Cornerback is not quite out of play either. While many consider this year’s class to be one of the weakest in recent years, the position is arguably the biggest need on Detroit’s roster. LSU’s Greedy Williams, Notre Dame’s Julian Love and Penn State’s Amani Oruwariye are all flawed prospects, but also have enough talent to be an instant boost to not only the corner position Jahlani Tavai Jersey Womens , but the entire defense. And of course, the tight duo out of Iowa is in play. T.J. Hockenson is an all-around star that would give the team a boost as a receiver and provides utility in the trenches as a blocker. Noah Fant is the sexier pick.He provides less off the nitty gritty stuff that doesn’t appear in the box score, but is an incredible, refined, receiver that could give the team exactly what they were missing without Eric Ebron last season. There are seemingly endless paths Detroit can take with the eighth overall pick, but whichever one they choose has to be the right one. The Lions have managed to land all-time greats early in the draft in the past with both Calvin Johnson in 2007 and Ndamukong Suh in 2010, but they were never able to build enough talent around them (and Stafford) to truly compete. The Lions have the team needed to compete this time around, they just need a little more star power on the roster to truly put it all together. For the first time in a long time this team has Super Bowl potential, and with how quickly windows close in the NFL, Detroit can not afford to let this opportunity slip through their fingers.10 years ago, the Lions made the right choice. Now, in what could possibly be the most important draft pick in franchise history, they have to make the right choice once again. If not, the Same Old Lions may get sent right back through the seemingly endless cycle of futility that has haunted them for generations.
Making the most of a second chance Cheap Deshaun Davis Jersey , Don Martindale has done an impressive job assembling and directing the top-ranked defense in the NFL.Combining an aggressive array of blitzes with bold coverage in the backfield, Martindale has added his name to the long list of accomplished Ravens defensive coordinators that includes Marvin Lewis, Rex Ryan, Chuck Pagano and Dean Pees.Baltimore (10-6) heads into Sunday's playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers (12-4) with a unit that allowed the fewest yards per game (292.9) and second-fewest points (17.9). The Ravens yielded an NFL-low 58 points in the fourth quarter, notched a team-record 11 sacks in a win at Tennessee and had three interceptions in last week's must-win game against Cleveland.A year ago, Baltimore lost its finale against Cincinnati to miss the postseason. After the Ravens snuffed the Browns' final drive on Sunday, linebacker Terrell Suggs was asked the difference between this season and last."Don Martindale," he replied. "It wasn't perfect. It hardly ever is. It wasn't pretty, but it was The Raven Way. It was a good finish, and a way to punch our ticket."After serving for seven years as Baltimore's linebackers coach, Martindale was promoted by head coach John Harbaugh in January after Pees bowed out.Obviously, Harbaugh has no regrets."Don Martindale did a great job. Not at all unexpected in any way," Harbaugh said. "I just think the world of him, always have."This marks Martindale's second stint as a defensive coordinator. The first time, at Denver in 2010, was a disaster. The Broncos went 4-12 that season and gave up more points (29.4 per game) and yards (390.8) than any team in the league.Martindale was fired after that season. He wasn't sure if he would ever get another shot at it, but Harbaugh made it happen.Asked if Baltimore's performance this season served as vindication Hardy Nickerson Jersey , Martindale responded, "I haven't sat back and reflected on that. We're just looking forward to this game on Sunday and keeping it rolling. But since you ask me, yeah, it feels a lot better."Martindale is known around the team complex as "Wink," a nod to former game show host Wink Martindale. In his role as defensive coordinator, Martindale has found that treating the players as individuals is the best way to get optimum production from the entire unit."I love 'Wink,' man. He's a great dude," linebacker Matthew Judon said. "He believes in all of his players, and he knows how to speak to us in different ways. He doesn't speak to me like he speaks to (linebacker) C.J. (Mosley). He knows how to reach us in our own different spaces. I think that's why we work so hard for 'Wink' and play so hard for him."Safety Eric Weddle also appreciates Martindale as a coach and communicator."What sets him apart is his personality, his openness, his belief in us and in how honest he is," Weddle said. "When your defensive coordinator has put in the time and the effort, and really is genuine to each player, it makes you want to play that much harder for him."Lewis, Ryan, Mike Nolan and Pagano are among the Ravens defensive coordinators who have gone on to become NFL head coaches. Given Martindale's ability to communicate and whip up a wicked defensive scheme, he might be a candidate to at least receive an interview in the near future."I think he would be a terrible head coach Deshaun Davis Jersey Womens ," Judon said with a wry grin. "I say that because I want to keep him around as our defensive coordinator."Weddle said: "No matter how bad you play, how things may go throughout the season, he'll always stand (up) for you. That's what you love about him, and why the guys play hard for him. I know a team would play lights out for him if he ever got the opportunity."Martindale got his first coach job as a backfield coach at Defiance College in 1986 and has steadily climbed the vocational ladder, but has has never had a team to call his own."If you're worth your salt as an assistant, I think everyone wants to be a head coach," Martindale said. "It's just something that if it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't."I told John this the other day, 'I'm 55. However long you want to go, I'd love to just be the D coordinator here and do it with you.'" CINCINNATI (AP) — Linebacker Vontaze Burfict is back on the Cincinnati Bengals‘ active roster after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancer policy. He’s glad to be back, even doing some work with special teams. He watched his teammates pull out a 37-36 win at Atlanta last Sunday on Andy Dalton’s touchdown pass to A.J. Green with 7 seconds left in regulation.“Of course, I missed it,” Burfict said before Friday’s practice. “My daughter came downstairs and said, ‘Daddy, we won.'”Burfict is expected to play Sunday when the Bengals (3-1) host Miami (3-1). Cincinnati is aiming to extend its best start since winning eight straight games in 2015.Burfict’s next snap will be his first of the season. He had an ankle injury that limited him during training camp, and he sat out all four preseason games before leaving the team for a month to serve his suspension. How much he’ll play is unknown Deshaun Davis Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , but he has a history of piling up snaps in similar circumstances. He was in for 36 plays against Pittsburgh in his first game in 2015 after missing six following knee surgery, 34 against the Dolphins in 2016 after missing three games following an NFL suspension for egregious hits, and 52 at Cleveland last season in his first game following another three-game NFL suspension for an egregious hit.“When you get out there, you want to be competitive,” said the former Arizona State player, who’s preparing for his seventh NFL season. “You don’t have to play every play. We’ve got enough good linebackers that it gives me a chance to get out for a couple of plays.”The Bengals activated Burfict after Friday’s practice. They hope he can shore up a defense that ranks 29th in the 32-team NFL in yards allowed and last in opponents’ third-down conversions while giving up the 10th-most points in the league.“I think we’ll be all right,” Burfict said. “Every game, there are always two or three plays that get messed up. Last year, the other teams wouldn’t score on those plays. This year, they’re scoring sometimes.”Burfict expects his biggest contribution might be his fiery personality — the same intensity that has led in the past to penalty-causing, suspension-inducing hits.“I’m a vocal leader,” he said. “I’ll add my little two cents. I think that can help.”Temperatures in the mid-80s are forecast for Paul Brown Stadium, which could affect Burfict’s stamina. But he believes the conditioning he maintained during the suspension will help him stay on the field. He also doesn’t anticipate needing much time to adjust to first-year defensive coordinator Teryl Austin’s system.“Football’s football,” he said. “The playbook’s the playbook. Your man is your man. His system is similar, but it’s different. You’ve got to get used to his calling of the game. It’s going to happen. It might take a couple of games.”BERNARD RULED OUT: Running back Giovani Bernard didn’t practice on Friday and was ruled out for Sunday’s game, leaving Joe Mixon with a bigger role in his return. Mixon missed the last two games following arthroscopic surgery to remove a cartilage chip from his right knee. He returned to practice this week. Receiver John Ross also was ruled out with a groin injury. Tight end Tyler Eifert went on injured reserve with a broken right ankle suffered Sunday at Atlanta.
There might be something to like about the West Virginia prospect."WhiteSections 2018 NFL Draft2018 NFL Free Agency2018 Mock Drafts2018 Draft Prospects2015 Miami Dolphins Draft Prospect Scouting ReportsShould The Dolphins Draft Will Grier?New http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-larry-csonka-jersey ,34commentsThere might be something to like about the West Virginia prospect.EDTShareTweetShareShareShould The Dolphins Draft Will Grier?Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsWith Ryan Fitzpatrick acting as the team’s stopgap option at quarterback, the Dolphins may look to the draft to further address the quarterback position when the 2019 draft starts tomorrow. One of the options available is West Virginia’s Will Grier. Grier, 24, completed 67% of his passes in his final season in college for 3,864 yards, 37 touchdowns and eight interceptions.Grier has typically ranked as one of the lower tier quarterbacks in this draft class, and his age might scare some teams away. But I think with Miami in need of a long term franchise quarterback, Grier might offer an answer there. I wasn’t expecting much going into his tape, so I wasn’t expected Grier’s accuracy to be good. Like, it’s surprisingly good. For more on that let’s take a look at some clips.NCAAFOne of the things I care about when evaluating the quarterback position is making accurate throws into tight windows. It’s especially impressive doing so under duress, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to throw from a clean pocket either.Grier’s accuracy can be astounding. He’s an aggressive minded passer that enjoys taking shots into small windows and offers consistent success throwing there. The left side of this play features the trips formation, as three receivers are lined up on that side of the ball. As the route lanes clear out Grier recognizes one of the receivers running towards the corner of the end zone.Grier is confident here that he can throw his receiver open, and he trusts that the receiver can use his speed to catch up to the ball and beat out the corner on the play. All of this happens, and it results in a beautifully placed touchdown pass from Grier.NCAAFGrier’s play under pressure doesn’t seem to take a serious hit either, as shown by this play. The interior pass rusher has a free hole as he bursts through the A-gap undetected. This gives the quarterback not even a split second to react and attempt to make something happen. He doesn’t flinch and fires a pass that has absolutely zero margin for error. And much like the first throw Womens Bob Griese Jersey , it’s spectacular. The receiver can’t get one foot in bounds so this doesn’t count, but the accuracy from Grier here is outrageous. It’s incredible coverage from the Baylor defense, but Grier’s great reaction to interior pressure and ball placement almost make this work. But it gives a taste of what he can do when he’s forced to rush the play.NCAAFGrier’s arm strength has taken plenty of criticism, but truth be told I don’t think it’s all that bad. Okay, perhaps it’s not at the level of a guy like Kyler Murray, but really I don’t think it should be below average in the NFL.The zip from Grier on this third and five throw is nice, and he displays clean footwork as he lets this one rip. What also stands out about this play is how quick Grier’s throwing motion is. For all the slander his arm gets, I think the quicker release he presents gives more margin for error on his throws and gets to his receivers just a hair before the defender can attempt to disrupt the pass.NCAAFGrier is also more than capable of creating plays outside the pocket, and if Miami drafts him he’s going to need to do that considering the offensive line is a work in progress. He’s probably the second most mobile of the quarterbacks I’ve watched from this class (Murray is first, of course). The arm strength and accuracy on the run here are both pinpoint. The pass is ultimately disrupted, but this is an accurate throw on the quarterback’s part. Now, if there’s one area where Grier needs work, it’s in his decision making consistency.NCAAFGrier’s decision making is generally fine, though there are times where he can stare down receivers for too long or misread coverages. He stares down the curl route for too long on this play, pump faking before firing in that direction. That delay in his release ultimately cost him Adam Joseph Duhe Jersey , as this pass was picked off by the Kansas State defensive back. So this is an area where Grier could use work, but as a quarterback prospect I think he’s very underrated. He reminds me of a more mobile Carson Palmer, a quarterback that excelled at dropping back and making aggressive tight window throws down the field. That’s incredibly important consider Miami has one of the worst offensive lines in the league, so getting a quarterback like Grier that can make tight window throws and play under pressure is big.The only other concern I have for Grier is at the age of 24, how much more can he develop? A guy like Sam Darnold is extremely raw but full of potential since he’s 21, so who knows if Grier can progress further. But I think for the skill set he offers, I really like Grier as a prospect.I don’t think he’s as good as Kyler Murray or Dwayne Haskins, but I personally think Will Grier is closer to Haskins than people think, and I like him more than Drew Lock. With sensational accuracy, impressive mobility, better than perceived arm strength, clean mechanics and a quick release, the idea of Grier to Miami should appeal to the Dolphins front office and coaching staff. DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins players wonder whether Kris Kocurek’s voice will give out, and perhaps they wish it would.Kocurek is in his first year as the defensive line coach http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-minkah-fitzpatrick-jersey , and he operates with high expectations at high energy and volume.“I’ve got to watch where I stand on the field with him,” defensive coordinator Matt Burke said following Thursday’s practice. “Sometimes he’s right there, and I get an earful. … People think it’s an act, and it’s not. That’s just who he is.”Not everything Kocurek shouts can be repeated, but the thrust is he’s trying to turn around a unit that underachieved last year when the Dolphins went 6-10.“I’ll just say this: I have a passion for d-line play,” said Kocurek, with a rasp.More Miami Dolphins newsDolphins DB Minkah Fitzpatrick will play vs. Patriots despite trade requestDolphins will try to regroup for Patriots after drubbing at the hands of RavensDolphins can’t contain Lamar Jackson, lose big at homeDolphins versatile offensive lineman Jesse Davis signs extension through 2022Dolphins trade Laremy Tunsil, Kenny Stills to Texans for draft picksCoach Adam Gase lured Kocurek out of Detroit, where he had been the Lion’ defensive line coach. Kocurek joined the Dolphins shortly before five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh departed, but Gase still believes his front four will be better this year.“Kris has done a really good job of getting to those guys,” Gase said. “They bring it. How they pursue the ball, get back to the line of scrimmage, go to the next play — there’s a lot of energy exerted on one play, and they just move on to the next one. He has developed them. That’s a tough group. They’re really trending in the right direction.”While Kocurek can be hard on his players Womens Cameron Wake Jersey , he also knows how hard the game can be. The 39-year-old Texas native played at Texas Tech, and after he was drafted in the seventh round, his NFL career lasted one game and four snaps — for Tennessee in 2001.“It was a goal-line situation,” he said. “They stuck me in there, and I just tried to get as low as I could. We actually held them out of there.”After a fifth shoulder operation ended his career, he turned to coaching and reached the NFL as a Lions assistant in 2009. When Detroit coach Jim Caldwell was fired in January, Kocurek came to Miami.“I had the same office for nine years, and all of a sudden you get thrown into a little bit different environment,” he said. “But it has been great. I look forward to cranking my truck in the morning and getting to work as fast as I can.”He’s working with perhaps the team’s deepest unit. While Suh is gone, Miami acquired two-time Pro Bowl end Robert Quinn. Holdovers include ends Cameron Wake, Andre Branch and Charles Harris, and tackles Jordan Phillips, Vincent Taylor and Davon Godchaux.Kocurek yells at all of them.“He’s high energy,” Branch said, “so you have no choice but to be high energy.”Burke said Kocurek’s passionate approach is a good match for the area he coaches.“People might get mad at me for saying this: I think the bigger you get Jason Taylor Jersey , the more motivated you’ve got to get from somebody externally,” Burke said. “With that group, it takes a little extra yelling and pushing.”Wake, for one, loves Kocurek’s approach.“He’s a guy that’s old school, hard-nosed,” Wake said. “He’s demanding. He doesn’t bite he tongue. He tells you how it is. … I love it. It’s a man’s game and there is no room for softness, especially the d-line. This is not quarterbacks, this is not receivers.”But will Kocurek’s voice make it through training camp?“No,” Wake said. “It has already taken a hit. He’s going to have to get some tea or some honey.”
Jared Goff was about four weeks old the previous time two NFL teams based in Los Angeles played each other. When this long-dormant derby returned in its newest form Sunday Authentic Greg Gaines Jersey , the young quarterback was the biggest reason why the Rams won this round in the long fight ahead for the hearts of LA.Goff passed for 354 yards and three touchdowns, and Todd Gurley rushed for 105 yards and another score, leading the Rams to a 35-23 victory over the Chargers in the franchises' first meeting since their relocations to Los Angeles."It felt like a good rivalry," said Goff, who was 29 for 36 in perhaps his most impressive pro performance. "I think you could feel the crowd. You could tell there were two sides in here. Ultimately I think we had a little bit more, being at home, but you could definitely feel it. I think they are a great team, we're a great team, and hopefully that can continue for a long time."Cory Littleton blocked a punt in the end zone and Blake Countess recovered it for an early touchdown for the Rams (3-0), who racked up 521 yards and remained one of the NFL's four unbeaten teams. Two seasons after the Rams kicked off professional football's return to the nation's second-largest market after 21 years away, they got their first meeting with the Chargers, who moved a year later. Both teams put on an entertaining show for a Coliseum crowd of 68,947 containing a surprisingly significant turnout of Chargers fans, but the Rams' offensive brilliance kept them ahead all day. These teams are likely to have a friendly coexistence in LA instead of a real rivalry Todd Gurley Jersey , since they'll only play each other roughly once every four years while they share a multi-billion-dollar stadium complex in Inglewood starting in 2020.Neither side ascribed much cultural significance to this win — but the Rams were thrilled to defend their turf."Coming out, they were kind of loud, but I think we quieted them up," Rams receiver Robert Woods said. "At the end of the game, you knew whose house it was, who is LA's team."Woods caught two TD passes and Cooper Kupp made a 53-yard scoring catch from Goff.Philip Rivers passed for 226 yards and hit Mike Williams with two touchdown passes for the Chargers (1-2), whose two losses have come against the powerhouse Chiefs and Rams without injured pass-rusher Joey Bosa. Melvin Gordon rushed for 80 yards and a score ."(The Rams) are good in all areas, but I feel like we had a lot of opportunities to make plays," Williams said. "We know the talent that we have in the locker room. We've just got to put it on the field."Despite their prolific offensive performance, the Rams never got comfortable. They lost starting cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib to injuries during the game, and the Chargers twice drove deep into Rams territory in the fourth quarter, only to come away with three points.Chargers rookie safety Derwin James got his first career interception in the end zone to kill a likely scoring drive, but he blamed the defense for the loss."We couldn't get a stop," James said. "We made them punt one time. Offense put up enough points."The Rams racked up 313 yards and held the ball for almost 20 minutes in the first half Aaron Donald Jersey , but also committed two red zone turnovers that allowed the Chargers to stay close. Gurley fumbled on the Rams' opening drive, and James picked off Goff in the end zone in the second quarter.Kupp and Goff put the Rams up 28-13 early in the third when Goff evaded pressure and slung a perfect, long throw to Kupp, who shook off Trevor Williams' tackle and ran away. The Rams didn't punt until they led 35-23 with 7:38 to play, but the Chargers couldn't get into the end zone in the final 23 minutes of the game.BIG BLOCKJames, the Bolts' stellar rookie safety, went out of bounds at the 1 after his pick, and the Chargers eventually had to punt out of their end zone. After a Bolts blocking mistake, Littleton easily blocked the punt to give a 21-6 lead to the Rams."Everything went perfectly for us, and that was the result," said Littleton, who is still playing special teams even after becoming a starting inside linebacker this year. "It was wide open. You don't get those very often."INJURY REPORTChargers: P Drew Kaser injured his leg when Littleton rushed in to block his punt in the first half. Rivers replaced Kaser as a kick holder in the first half, but Kaser returned for the second half. ... WR Travis Benjamin missed his second straight game with an injured right foot.Rams: Peters injured his leg during the first half and had to be helped off the field. The Pro Bowl selection didn't return. Talib then left in the second half. McVay said the Rams will know more Monday. ... Kick returner JoJo Natson injured his hand in the first half and didn't return. He was signed two weeks ago to replace injured Pro Bowl returner Pharoh Cooper. ... LB Dominique Easley was sidelined with a knee injury. McVay didn't know the extent.UP NEXTChargers: Host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Sept. 30.Rams: Host the Minnesota Vikings this Thursday C.J. Anderson Jersey , Sept. 27. With only three days to prepare, the players were already getting extensive treatment in the locker room after the game. "Recovery process starts now!" receiver Brandin Cooks yelled. No Los Angeles Rams game today, my friends. But there’s still plenty of good football on and if you’ve been planted on your couch for the past seven hours there’s no reason to get up now! Here’s a look at the afternoon and night games today:Detroit Lions (3-3-1) at Oakland Raiders (3-4)Despite their records, this should shape up to be a pretty good game. I’m guessing that both of these teams, despite their records, are hoping to turn things around and minimally earn a wild card spot in their respective conferences, though they’d need to start stringing together a bunch of wins. A loss today probably crushes that aforementioned hope. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5) at Seattle Seahawks (6-2)Hey Bucs, do that thing where you fly across the country and put up 55. Green Bay Packers (7-1) at Los Angeles Chargers (3-5)The Packers are very good at football and may be getting star wide receiver Davante Adams back today. It’ll be a shame to see someone lose in the Coli today, but hey, at least it ain’t the Rams! Cleveland Browns (2-5) at Denver Broncos (2-6)Ewwwwwwwwwww. Just kidding. No but seriously, this is gross. Sunday Night Football:New England Patriots (8-0) at Baltimore Ravens (5-2)This should be an excellent Sunday night game...which just means the Tom Brady & Co. will hold the Ravens to 6 points and move to 9-0 on the season. Here’s to hoping that doesn’t happen. There’d be no better way to finish out a 14-hour day of watching football than to see the Patriots be dealt their first loss. Rams have the Ravens in three weeks (Week 12), so this is a perfect opportunity to size up a very formidable opponent.
For entirely different reasons Jordan Lucas Jersey , young quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs' defense had shared most of the public's attention through the first four weeks of the season.Mahomes had been nearly perfect. The defense had been nearly inept.Yet in their biggest test so far, against a Jacksonville team that reached the AFC title game a season ago, Kansas City responded with its most complete performance. Mahomes was still humming against the Jaguars' top-ranked defense Sunday, while the KC defense piled up five sacks, forced five turnovers and returned one of Blake Bortles' four interceptions for a touchdown in a 30-14 rout ."The sky is the limit if we play all phases of the game like that," said Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who had six catches for 100 yards. "It's a special thing when you get a whole group of guys to come together for one goal. It's special and it's sure as fun as hell."The Chiefs (5-0) certainly appear to be special right now. They've already scored 175 points to set the franchise record for the five-game mark, while Mahomes threw for 313 yards against Jacksonville to give him a franchise-best 1,513 yards through Week 5.Mahomes has four straight 300-yard passing games, becoming the first QB in NFL history with four in his first six career games. He will try to set the franchise record with five consecutive games when the Chiefs head to New England for a Sunday night showdown this week."When you play a defense like that," Mahomes said Jordan Lucas Jersey , "you're not going to score a ton. The defense stepped up, made a lot of great plays and got us into great field position. I just went out there to maximize the game plan and score when I could."Indeed, it sure seemed as if the Kansas City defense played with a chip on its shoulder after hearing all season how bad it has been, and hearing all week how good the Jaguars would be.The Chiefs held on fourth down inside their 5-yard line early in the second quarter. They held again on fourth down late in the game. They strip-sacked Bortles, picked him off four times and returned one for a touchdown, all despite losing a handful of players to injuries and ejections .Chris Jones, who had the pick-6, was ejected after dropping an elbow on a Jacksonville lineman. Pass rusher Dee Ford followed him to the locker room a few minutes later after getting a second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Outside linebackers Justin Houston (hamstring) and Tanoh Kpassagnon (ankle) joined Eric Murray (lower leg) and fellow safety Armani Watts (groin) in getting banged-up.Yet a bunch of unheralded fill-ins responded quite well.Rookie pass rusher Breeland Speaks brought some pressure late in the game. Kpassagnon played well until he went down. And young safety Jordan Lucas, who was traded from Miami just before the start of the season, picked off his first pass after spending most of the season playing special teams."It's a team. We don't point fingers, any of that Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Jersey ," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "We know that every week we expect every phase 鈥?offense, defense and special teams 鈥?to pick it up if the other phase is down. We've been able to do that so far."The result has been another 5-0 start, the Chiefs' third under Reid and second in a row. But while last year's team followed with six losses in a seven-game stretch, there are reasons to believe this year's team will follow a different path through the middle portion of the schedule."We learned a lot from what happened after our 5-0 start last year," Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley said. "We know that we can't be excited about being 5-0. We have to be looking forward to the next game. We have to know that it's a long season and you have to build if you want to win."It helps that this year the Chiefs appear to be a more complete team."Last year we had a great team and we won a lot of games," Mahomes said. "This year we're just trying to learn from last year, the little drought we had, and just try to make it a procession."NFL seasons are long," he said, "and there's going to be ups and downs. But you kind of just grind out every single day and try to get better, and you hope you can limit the downs and maximize the ups." On Sunday Terrance Smith Jersey , the regular season will end. A full 34 days later, we’ll learn the identity of the MVP. When that happens (and if we still care . . . there’s a chance that the night before the Super Bowl we won’t), the MVP possibly will be not one but two players. It’s happened twice before, with Packers quarterback Brett Favre and Lions running back Barry Sanders sharing the award in 1997, and with Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Titans quarterback Steve McNair splitting it in 2003. With only 50 voters and each voter having only one vote each, there’s a chance it will happen in 2018, with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Saints quarterback Drew Brees registering a tie. Some believe Mahomes should be the no-brainer winner, but what if the Chiefs lose on Sunday against the Raiders and ultimately fail to secure the AFC West crown? Since the merger, only one quarterback has won the MVP award outright without his team winning its division — that came in 2008, when Peyton Manning’s Colts finished second to the Titans.Plenty of running backs have won the MVP without his team winning the division. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson became the MVP in 2012, Rams running back Marshall Faulk won the MVP in 2000 Khalen Saunders Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , Oilers running back Earl Campbell won it in 1979, Bears running back Walter Payton won it in 1977, and Bills running back O.J. Simpson was named MVP in 1973, even though Buffalo didn’t even make the playoffs that year. But quarterbacks who win the award typically also have won their divisions. If the Chiefs don’t win the AFC West, should Mahomes be the MVP? While that outcome would be in many respects out of his control, it could make it harder to overcome Brees’ candidacy, given that the Saints have secured the top seed in the NFC.Mahomes has become the most dynamic and exciting player in the NFL, and it’s easy to make the argument that he should win the first of what could be many MVP awards. But if the Chiefs lose on Sunday to the Raiders and fail to win their division, Brees could end up securing enough votes to take the prize — or maybe to result in the third ever tie.

However, only 53 of them will be able to survive the cutdowns on August 31 and ultimately make the team. Over the course of the summer, we will take a look at the players fighting for those spots to find out who has the best chances of helping the Patriots defend their Super Bowl title.Today, the series continues with one of New England’s draft picks:Name: Jarrett StidhamPosition: QuarterbackJersey number: TBD (offseason #58)Opening day age: 23Experience: RookieSize: 6’3, 215 lbs.2018 review: Jarrett Stidham’s first season at Auburn was quite successful: the transfer from Baylor started all fourteen games and completed 246 of his 370 pass attempts (66.5%) for 3,158 yards (8.5 per attempt), 18 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, while also leading the Tigers to the SEC championship. But even though he showed plenty of promise, he did not reach the same level of performance in his follow-up campaign.Across the board, Stidham’s statistics went down in 2018 — his second season in the system: starting all thirteen of his team’s games Michael Bennett Jerseys 2019 , he threw one fewer pass on the year than he did in the previous season, but saw his completion percentage drop to 60.7% (224 of 369) and his yards per attempt to 7.6 per throw (2,794 yards in total). Not all was bad, though, as he again threw 18 touchdowns and also saw his interception total go down to 5.All in all, however, he did not display the same confidence during his junior year at Auburn that he did during his 2017 sophomore season. One reason for that might have been the changing cast of characters surrounding him, as well as the fact that he saw a lot put on his plate last year: even though he displayed a solid throwing technique and sound decision making most of the time, he felt to elevate his game when he needed to.Stidham, who decided to leave school early, did therefore not enter the pre-draft process as one of the top quarterback prospects despite his undeniable but inconsistent qualities. This, in turn, allowed New England to scoop him up on day three.2019 preview: The Patriots apparently felt that Stidham’s play in 2017 and 2015 — he completed 68.8% of his pass attempts at Bailor that year — was most reflective of who he was as a passer and his long-term outlook at the next level, or else they would not have invested the 133rd overall selection in him. And given his status as a fourth-round draft selection White Danny Shelton Jerseys , the 22-year-old can be considered a lock to make the 53-man roster this year. The main questions regarding the rookie in 2019 will therefore be about his ultimate role on the squad as well as his overall development. Will Stidham, for example, be able to beat out incumbent backup Brian Hoyer to potentially earn the number two role on the team (and by extension maybe even make Hoyer expendable)? Will he be able to perform in the Patriots’ challenging system? Will his already solid technique improve even further? The answers to these questions will not only determine Stidham’s roster outlook for the 2019 season, but also serve as the foundation for what comes beyond his rookie season. Before getting ahead of ourselves, however, let’s once more focus on the year that lies ahead and how the Auburn product might be used by the Patriots — and how he could fare given the circumstances in combination with his abilities.Unless he surprises during training camp and preseason, Stidham will likely enter the regular season as New England’s third quarterback behind Tom Brady and Hoyer. As such, he will see most if not all of his action in practice while running the scout team. Of course, the Patriots will use the rookie quite a lot during preseason but you should probably shy away from drafting him for your fantasy teams: don’t expect Stidham to see the field often in 2019. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs safety Eric Berry sounded confident Friday that he’ll be on the field when Kansas City plays the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game at Arrowhead Stadium. The three-time All-Pro has been a full participant in practice this week after dealing with a heel injury, but needs the OK from coach Andy Reid to take the field Sunday night.“I feel pretty good. Just talk to Coach and see what he wants to do and go from there,” Berry said. “It would mean a lot not just for me and my family and my teammates, but the organization.”Berry tore his Achilles’ tendon in last year’s opener, sidelining him the rest of the season. He returned in time for summer workouts and the start of training camp. But a mysterious heel injury popped up that kept Berry off the field until Week 15 against the Chargers.Berry played more the following week on the turf in Seattle Danny Shelton Jerseys 2019 , but the injury recurred and he missed the regular-season finale against Oakland and the divisional round matchup against Indianapolis.“It was pretty frustrating, but you just have to keep rolling,” said Berry, who nevertheless broke down the pregame huddle with an emotional pep talk. “Keep focused and keep your head down.”Berry has become a pro at overcoming adversity. He missed most of one season with a torn ACL in his knee, and he missed the end of another when he was diagnosed with cancer. In both instances, he recovered in time to play the following season. However, those situations were relatively straightforward. There was a clear diagnosis and obvious path toward recovery. But the heel has been a challenge for Berry and the organization, once viewed as a “day-to-day” situation that became a saga that lasted months. There have been various reports, always citing unnamed sources, of a heel deformity that causes intense pain, but the Chiefs and Berry have refused to confirm them.Asked several times about the injury Friday, Berry merely replied: “It’s hard to explain.”Berry said he wasn’t concerned about the field causing the heel problems. It was torn up in the divisional round after several inches of snow fell before the game. The grounds crew spent this week replacing the turf between the hashes, along the sidelines and in one of the end zones.“I’m just being prepared for every situation,” Berry said. “Our field crew White Josh Gordon Jerseys , grounds crew is very good. They do a very good job. Just trusting in them that they can get the job done.”Berry’s value lies not just in his athletic ability, though the Chiefs could use some help covering Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Rather, his biggest benefit to a defense that has struggled mightily at times this season may be his leadership and on-field demeanor.“A huge impact. He’s a huge player for us,” Chiefs linebacker Dee Ford said.“The physicality he brings to this team and the leadership role is amazing,” Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones said. When he’s at his best, Berry is one of the best safeties in the NFL, adequate in coverage and dynamic at stuffing the run. But even at a fraction of his best, Berry is still talented enough to impact a game, and that’s why his return could prove critical to the Chiefs.“I mean, Eric’s a good football player. He’s an All-Pro player,” Reid said. “That’d be an obvious statement, but it’s another good player in the mix. A great player.”NOTES: Chiefs OLB Dorian O’Daniel (hamstring) was ruled out for the game. … WR Sammy Watkins (foot) and RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) participated in practice all week and are expected to play.100<button class="view-gallery">View Gallery</button> Gallery:View from the sidelines: NFL cheerleaders 2018Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports | Raj Mehta

Tell the Truth: Raiders clock ran out by the 4th quarter again For the third straight week the Oakland Raiders scored on their opening drive. They generated and held a lead for three quarters of football. But Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , another fourth quarter collapse robbed the Raiders of victory yet again.Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther is either turning water to wine for 3 quarters on defense or the team loses their glass slipper way too early. Thru three quarters the defense is rock solid. Late additions Clinton McDonald and Jonathan Hankins have been an improvement at the point of attack. Arden Key is learning on the job and getting closer and closer to finishing in the backfield. Gareon Conley got tested deep twice, he was 50/50 but the best thing was he didn’t give up a touchdown. Reggie Nelson was running all over the box and was a tackling machine. At about three minutes left in the third, the clock struck midnight for the Raiders defense. The Dolphins trailed 17-7 with 2:58 seconds left to go in the third quarter, from there they would go on to score three touchdowns in their next four possessions. In a lightning quick 4 minutes and 45 seconds of offensive possessions and8 plays, the Dolphins would shift gears and run away with the game.On paper, the defense blew a total of four plays for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns and it cost them the game. Opponents have now scored on a jet sweep in three straight games against the Raiders and the Dolphins even used some razzle dazzle to supplement a stalled offense. Through 3 games they have averaged playing less than ten minutes in the first half.By the beginning of the fourth quarter this team goes belly up. Raiders have been outscored 37-3 in fourth quarters in 2018. But why? We’ve heard excuses altitude, heat, travel/early start etc. etc. The only possible reason I can offer is teams have identified that by going max protect the Raiders impotent pass rush will not pressure their quarterback. This allows for an opportunity to punish the safeties for a lack of modern NFL velocity. But the defense rarely is on the field longer than 20 minutes before it all falls apart. Against the Dolphins it really came down to trick plays, turnovers, and being 2/5 40% inside the redzone. Can you be elite and not score?Points win football games, not statistics and the 2018 Raiders are a painful reminder of that fact. In his first season back on the sidelines, head coach Jon Gruden has his offense gaining the sixth most yards per game in the league (400.7) Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , sixth in passing (302 yards per game), tied for 16th in rushing averaging (98 yards per game), and eighth in third down conversion (44.4%). Averaging 17.3 points per game awards the Raiders with the 28th best scoring offense in the league. “We are fighting, I think if you watch the tape you will see a lot of great competitiveness. You will see some guys giving you everything that they have,” said Gruden.Nobody has given up. The players are banding even closer together and searching within instead of blaming others. Many have seen the early returns and know penalties and mistakes prevent them from being a great offense.“I think when you throw for 80% in basically three games for almost 1000 yards, that is as good as I've ever been associated with,” said Gruden speaking about Carr’s performance thus far. Carr has been stellar under center, rolling out, calling audibles, and lethally accurate until he gets inside the opponents 20 yard line. It’s been an interesting turn of events over the course of the past few years. In 2016 Carr came out swan diving out of bounds, calling audibles, ripping 50-yard frozen ropes in the Pro Bowl Antonio Brown Jersey White , and clutch comebacks. So far this season, when the team needs Carr to execute most he’s pressing. Carr is an excitable man and an excitable player. What makes this season more upside down is Carr’s outstanding 76.6 completion percentage, especially when compared to only having 2 TD’s vs 5 Interceptions. It’s not just the fact that Carr has thrown 5 interceptions but he has thrown some passes that look like he was hand throwing skeet at shotgun league. There may never be a good time to throw an interception, but two of the five have been the result of aggressively attacking man-to-man coverage in the end zone. Goal line interceptions are back breakers. The main scoring threat has been running back Marshawn Lynch. Lynch is getting more comfortable in this offense and has been finding more and more room to run. Don’t get it twisted though, Beastmode has been running through some faces too. He leads the team with three rushing touchdowns and has been a rallying point. Against the Dolphins Lynch ran the ball 19 times for 64 yards of pure tough running and scored the games first touchdown.AC/DC power outageOne week Amari Cooper and Carr are perfect together for the first time ever. The next week Cooper is quitting on routes where he has a step, dropping easy passes, not getting to where the play is designed. It was just really bizarre to see these two be on the same team and totally not on the same page. Cooper is in a contract year, if he doesn’t produce there isn’t a guarantee he will be extended a fifth-year option, and he definitely ain’t coming anywhere near OBJ’s money with his disappearing acts. Cooper is a strange case of not enough personality at a prima donna position. Me guys don’t allow themselves to fail, me guys don’t ever not get their’s or the whole world hears about it. In order for Cooper to reach his full potential he’s going to need to pound his chest and let people know to throw him the damn ball!Final ThoughtsThe Miami Dolphins were allowed to hang around in this football game until they got their opportunity to strike. Fourth quarters continue to be scenes from Chucky’s House of Horrors. Carr must find the magic fountain of clutch, and figure out how to hit pay-dirt and keep revisiting. The defense looks good enough to get off the field on third downs but not good enough when the defecation hits the rotary oscillator. No team should be giving up 21 points in 4:45 seconds spread out through 18 minutes of football. Guenther is going to need to find a way to take R. Nelson out of the defense in single high looks. When Nelson is back there teams are calling max protect, throwing deep Bo Jackson Jersey White , and either scoring or getting a penalty leading to a score. One last nugget some may confuse with hate. Jordy Nelson had a helluva game. He was over 100 yards receiving before everyone had taken their seats. Football is a game of inches. It always has been and it always will be. There has been lots of talk about whether Nelson has lost a step and whether he can still run. In the NFL the difference in losing a step usually equates to losing potentially a tenth of a second off your 40 time. While it may not appear to be a big deal go back and look at the 66-yard reception where Nelson was caught from behind, an additional step of speed gets him into the end zone and puts his team up 14-0 on the road, and perhaps that reinforces the confidence and we have a different outcome.Follow Phil on twitter @PhilRobinsonNFL If you never change your mind on anything, I don’t think you are actually thinking. I cannot tell you how many times in football or life in general I have come to realize I was wrong about something and changed my philosophy as a result. That is the topic of today’s podcast. I will tell you some of the things I have changed my mind about in the NFL. I present this in an increment of three. Today’s show will focus on my changed views about the true value and importance of Draft picks, the silliness of evaluating whether a prospect is a good fit for a “pro system,” and the danger of overpaying for a middle of the pack quarterback’s second contract.Thank you as always for listening to the show. It was a fine deal for a competent receiver and a much better option than the stale Natrell Jamerson Jersey , low sodium saltines available in the cupboard. Thomas played in seven games and caught 23 passes for 237 yards for the Texans until his season ended prematurely in Philadelphia with a torn Achilles. At 31 years old, some questioned whether DT would come back to play football again, though his status in Houston wasn’t questioned; he was due $14 million to play in Houston in 2019, and there was no way the Texans were going to pay him that even if he was healthy. What happened next was a no-brainer. The Texans released him Womens Andre Johnson Jersey , making the veteran wideout a free agent.Thomas is in fact going to play more football, even at 31 years old and after tearing his Achilles. Yesterday, Thomas signed with the New England Patriots, where he will hang out with Julian Edelman Womens Zach Fulton Jersey , Philip Dorsett, and maybe Josh Gordon. Even if it didn’t work out the way he and the Texans hoped, it was a decent trade Houston made bringing in Thomas. We will see him back in Houston next season when the Texans host the Patriots. Detroit Lions Week 1 injury update: What we know about Ezekiel Ansah http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-taylor-decker-jersey , T.J. Lang, Matthew Stafford Monday night wasn’t just a disaster in terms of performance on the field for the Detroit Lions. They also dealt with injuries to some key players. Matthew Stafford, Ezekiel Ansah, T.J. Lang and Darius Slay all missed time against the New York Jets. While we won’t know the full status of any of these players until the first injury report of the week (expected Wednesday), here’s what we know about each of their statuses as of Monday night.Matthew StaffordStafford suffered two injuries. First, his leg got stepped on by Taylor Decker, leaving him with very limited mobility for a single drive. However, he didn’t miss any time because of the injury and he looked much more comfortable on his leg as the game went on.But not much later, Stafford took a brutal hit simultaneously low and to his midsection. Stafford stayed down for some time after the play, and ended up missing a couple plays.Stafford would end up coming back in, but was pulled when the game was well out of hand.Where things stand now: It looks like Stafford is relatively fine. He’s not expected to miss any time Womens Jarrad Davis Jersey , and he told reporters after the game, “I’ll be okay.”UPDATE: Stafford gave more details on the radio Tuesday, and it seems like he’ll be just fine: Ezekiel AnsahAfter just 19 defensive snaps, Ansah left the game with a shoulder injury. He went into the locker room, and it didn’t appear he ever returned to the field. Though he was first listed as questionable to return with the shoulder injury, he was eventually downgraded to out. Where things stand now: After the game, head coach Matt Patricia could not give an update on Ansah’s condition.“We’ve got to go in there and take a look at it and see what’s going on,” Patricia said. We’ll hopefully know more early this week.T.J. LangIf you skipped out on the game early, you probably didn’t even know T.J. Lang suffered an injury. He missed just one offensive snap for the game (the final kneel down), but the team officially announced that he was questionable to return with a back injury. Where things stand now: We don’t know, but this is obviously a very concerning injury. Not only did Lang miss the entire preseason Matthew Stafford Jersey White , but he also missed time last season with a back injury. There’s no word on whether this is the same kind of back injury, but for a player that has struggled with staying healthy since landing in Detroit, this isn’t a great start to the season.Darius SlaySlay took a friendly-fire hit to the head when Ansah landed on him in the first quarter of the game. Though it looked bad at the time, the team evaluated him for a concussion, and he was cleared. He was in for the very next defensive drive. Where things stand now: Head injuries are always tricky, and we’ve seen symptoms show up hours or even days after a player suffers a concussion, so Slay isn’t necessarily clear from the injury. However, he sent out an optimistic tweet after the game: Lions defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson faces a prove-it season. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract, needing a big year either to re-sign with the Lions or to find a big deal waiting for him in free agency.Robinson, a second-round choice in 2016, has played 45 of a possible 48 games in his career but doesn’t have any honors or big stats to show for it.The former Alabama star Nick Bellore Jersey White , though, is unconcerned about his future. He might that quite clear Monday.“I ain’t worried about none of that [stuff],” Robinson said, via Dave Birkett of the . “That [stuff] don’t matter to me right now. What matters is us trying to be the best team we can be so we can get to the playoffs and have a chance to win the Super Bowl.”Robinson had his best season in 2018 when he made 49 tackles in 13 games before a knee injury ended his year. He is expected to play left end and defensive tackle this season, so he should get chances to earn a big payday come March.“Going into my fourth year, I think it’s a blessing,” Robinson said. “Not many people have this opportunity so I just take it as that and God gave me this ability so I got to take it and utilize it for these guys out here.”

Quarterback Baker Mayfield was the Browns player most visibly upset with Hue Jackson after Jackson was fired as the team’s coach last season and went to work for the Bengals, but he wasn’t alone in harboring bad feelings about the former coach.Tight end David Njoku was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show Tuesday and was asked whether Mayfield’s slam of Jackson following a game against the Bengals last season was a case of the quarterback speaking for the entire locker room.“Well, obviously we weren’t happy with what Hue said about us after he left. It is what it is,” Njoku said. “Baker didn’t appreciate it. We came together after Hue left and took it upon ourselves to work extra hard to finish the year strong. . . . Baker has a voice, as we all do, and he didn’t appreciate what happened. It’s not like we’re robots. We felt, in a way Anthony Munoz Jersey , disrespected. It is what it is.”The Browns responded well after Jackson was fired, but the same kind of in-season motivational boost isn’t expected this year. They’ll need to find something, though, because coming close to a winning record this year won’t be seen as the same kind of accomplishment.
